Stackable : Lovegrove Supernatural Chair
Ross Lovegrove Supernatural Chair for Moroso.
Born in 1958 in England Ross Lovegrove has created some really brilliant modern ‘classics’ for such companies as Danerka, Moroso, Driade and Thonet. Lovegroove designed the Go chair for Danerka, which I think is really remarkable, you can see my post here regarding the Go chair.
The fantastic thing about the Supernatural chair is that it is stackable, perfect for outdoor use and unlike so many designer pieces does not cost a fortune. This is really an easily obtainable designer piece for the design product collector. The chair is made of glass fiber reinforced polyamide, which was a technological advancement for the company Moroso.

The Berlin designer Michael Hilgers founded the company rephorm to showcase a series of products exclusively for ‘outdoor living rooms’ or better known as balconies. This Spring 2 new members to the family of “Steckling” balcony planters have been added and they are so practical that I am buying. It is worth a look around rephorm to see the other products that were developed for the ‘outdoor living room’. Michael Hilgers also runs a blog regarding ‘Balcony, Urban Gardening, Design’ called Green Lounge.
The great thing about the planter boxes, Steckling and Cube, is that they require no extra tools or attachment devices but can be simply placed over the edge of the balcony with profiles up to 6 cm.

Self Standing Umbrella by Hironao Tsuboi. Now this is clever, an umbrella with feet!
Turns out this was no easy feat (no pun intended) to do. “To achieve this, the center of gravity was determined in a complex process by casting aluminum into different clay moulds. Further series of tests were carried out to determine the optimal spread of the three legs. The diameter and center of gravity of the base, made of ABS synthetic resin (plastic), were optimized in such a way that the umbrella is not only steady when standing up but also remains handy.”

Super Colossal: Cardboard Cubby
In early February 2008 the architecture office Super Colossal based in Sydney, Australia participated in the Sydney Design and Decoration trade show and were 1 of 6 architects and designers that were asked to produce a “Sustainable Room” as a centerpiece of the show.
Super Colossal designed and produced this awesome construction from cardboard material sponsered by Visy. The cubby house can be easily recycled “once it is no longer fun, or when it rains, whichever comes first.” You can’t buy but it is awesome to look at. View the whole story here.

Carrie is an unique bike basket designed for the urban cyclist. The deisnger Marie-Louise Gustafsson selected the ornate material as it reminded her of the Swedish crochet tablecloths on which her grandmother used to serve afternoon tea. Also doubles as a shopping basket.
