Emeco Chairs 77 Steps
Iconic, in a word. Emeco chairs began in 1944 with a collaboration between Emeco and ALCOA, the largest American producer of aluminum, to develop a seaworthy chair for military use. The collaboration between ALCOA’s scientists, Naval engineers and Emeco resulted in the production of the now classic Navy Chair. The Navy Chair was produced in Emeco’s Hanover, Pennsylvania workshops where all of their chair collections are still made today. Each chair is built individually by a handful of craftsmen in a a unique 77-step process.
Since this time Emeco has partnered with many designers, the most well known being Philippe Starck, who designed the Hudson chair, created and named for Ian Schrager’s Hudson Hotel in Manhattan. All of Emeco’s chairs are made from 80% recycled aluminum which has been thermally treated. Three times stronger than steel and amazingly light weight, these chairs have a life expectancy of at least 150 years. Emeco believes in the quality of it’s product, so much so, that Emeco will replace them (a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser) that all chairs and stools be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use and conditions for life! All chairs are available in brushed and polished finishes.

Thinner, designed by German born Tobias Berneth for the Swedish firm Karl Andersson & Sons, is a table with slender, elegant dimensions. Thinner comes in four heights of 400, 480, 730 and 900 mm, and in 12 different sizes of table. The tabletop is 6 mm thick and is made in veneers of oak, birch, walnut and white laminate, as well as in black-stained oak. Alright it might be a little late to purchase a 2008 wall calendar but this little gem is just my aesthetic - simple, clean, with a touch of whimsy - The Perforated Calendar by UK based letterpress printers and designers, Harrington & Squires. Founded in 2002 by Chrissie Charlton and Vicky Fullick, Harrington & Squires, is a small private press specializing in small format limited editions.

Tactile : Working Class Heroes Felt Covers
12fifiteen, Etsy shop owner and the creator of a divine range of letterpress paper goods sent me a tip regarding these indie designers, Working Class Heroes, from Vienna, Austria and what a great tip it is. Working Class Heroes products are handmade from a specially developed 100% top-grade wool felt and premium aniline leather. The felt is water repellent and oh so nice looking, makes me want to touch it right through the screen. You can find all their products in their Austrian based shop. Ran across this little gem of an idea and thought clever… viaLetter. The concept is to send REAL letter messages through the post. Now I would love to receive something like this in my stack of bills and advertisements.
The capital letters are approximately 12 cm tall and the lowercase letters are propotional to the capital letter typeface chosen, approximately 7 cm. The letters are 1 cm thick and are cut from synthetic hardcore foamboard. There are 4 typefaces to choose from.
